Pink Landscapes & Transformational Objects

Marco Frauchiger examines the power of images to tell about war and the traumas that it produces. He photographs the consequences of war in Laos, the most heavily bombed country in the world. During his travels, he gathers images of the damage to the local landscape. The images in Pink Landscapes, which is being presented in Juraplatz, were created using expired film stock, giving them a pink colour and a particular grain, evoking the erasure of memory. The artist has also created a visual catalogue of objects – bucket, spoons, bowls, cup – made by local people out of the metal of the artillery shells that rained down on the country. This series of images, presented in Rue Basse/Untergasse, was created in his studio and is entitled Transformational Objects. While celebrating the resilience of the local people, it also tells of the still pervasive consequences of the war in their daily lives.
