Paravento II
Hemauer / Keller

Paravento II is part of Christina Hemauer and Roman Keller’s long-term research into the social and ecological transformations brought about by climate change.

At the intersection of sculpture, architecture and photography, the work takes the form of a permeable screen, both a dividing surface and a passageway, thus questioning the relationship between nature and culture. Powered by solar energy, the device produces wind and fog, regulated by measurements of CO₂, fine particles, humidity and temperature, in order to provide plants with the dust and moisture essential to their survival. The windbreak becomes a wind generator, the interior becomes the exterior, and the architecture is transformed into an experimental and fragile ecological micro-utopia.

The photographs also bear witness to a nature shaped by humans: they show artificial clouds — contrails — formed in the sky by passing airplanes.
