Photographies de femmes au travail et manifestations de femmes, avec un hommage à Christiane Brunner
Monique Jacot

In her series devoted to women in factories, Monique Jacot documents with attentive precision and profound dignity the gestures of industrial labour and the bodies engaged in production. She focuses on everyday realities: repetitive postures, concentration, fatigue and silent solidarity. Her images reveal an often invisible world, where the female presence nevertheless has a lasting impact on the economy and social rhythms. Between closeness and restraint, the photographer highlights the strength, vulnerability and persistence of these trajectories, placing women’s work at the heart of 20th-century social and political history.

In her photographs of women in the fields, Monique Jacot captures the discreet but essential presence of those who work the land and inhabit the rural landscape. Their movements are slow, precise, rooted in seasonal rhythms and passed-down knowledge. Her images show bodies in relation to the land: bent over, attentive, sometimes isolated, but always part of a collective fabric. Between harshness and gentleness, they reveal another way of seeing, where agricultural work becomes a living memory, a link to life and a form of silent resistance.

In her images of women’s rights demonstrations, Monique Jacot captures the collective energy, the determined faces, the bodies on the march. Her gaze documents a pivotal moment in feminist struggles in Switzerland, between political demands and the assertion of a public presence. In particular, she highlights committed figures such as Christiane Brunner, whose strength and determination she captures at the heart of the mobilisations. Without exaggeration, her photographs reveal the power of a movement carried by multiple voices, where the individual and the collective come together in the same demand for recognition and equality, inscribing these struggles in a shared memory.
