SOLEIL
Sébastien Reuzé

Sunrises and sunsets are constantly being photographed, depicted, reproduced and distributed in all sorts of media. The work of Sébastien Reuzé explores the omnipresent beauty of the sun motif by considering its popular, exotic and persistent aspects, but also its repetitive and immersive shape and its variations. This photo series was created in California in the streets of Los Angeles, but it partially excludes identifiable urban forms to focus on the sun, which is placed at the centre of the pictures. Framed frontally and printed in large format, Reuzé’s images are sometimes saturated in yellow-orange tones and tend towards abstraction, leaving room for emptiness. They encourage the viewer to return to this familiar motif and to explore its potential as both memory and fiction.
