Umkreis: Routine Dreams
Nina Rieben

A thought on a paper

A poem, a doubt

written with a finger on a wrist

Fragments of emotions and stories form the artistic practice of Nina Rieben. Her works are anecdotal narratives of conditions. They revolve around personal, everyday and romantic feelings in the context of Western ways of thinking and capitalist realities.

Factual photographs meet poetic text fragments, monochrome surfaces meet figuration, small meets large and day meets night. In her works, Rieben is interested in an ambivalent state that combines assertion and doubt, sensuality and irony and oscillates between pathos and emptiness. The artist describes this state as the „romance of insecurity”.
