Notre pain quotidien
Lalie Thébault Maviel

Notre pain quotidien is an incomplete and subjective encyclopedia of bread, reflecting its presence in our lives and its political, social, economic and aesthetic evolution. Consisting of 156 visual plates, it presents a collective memory centred on this staple food, ranging from how its production to its most derivative uses. The plates gather together various aspects of the culture and iconography of bread, arranging them by theme in a non-hierarchical way; altogether, it is like a work of visual archaeology.

The images that Lalie Thébault Maviel has selected and assembled come from various media, including social networks, cookbooks, training manuals and audiovisual archives. They have all been printed to the same size, manually reworked to fit in the space of a standard A4 sheet. In 2022 the photo series was published as a book, designed by Ninon Chaboud and published by September Books. For this exhibition, the festival has chosen ten images, which are being displayed in public spaces in the form of posters.
