Daily Life in Pictures
Archives municipales de Bienne
Going cycling, doing the shopping or disposing of rubbish: the everyday and the mundane, immortalized by the photographers of the former municipal police of Biel/Bienne.
The city archives of Biel/Bienne present a selection of images from their collection of police photographs taken between about 1900 and 1980, comprising more than ten thousand images. In addition to documenting their police work, the officers also immortalized scenes of daily life and apparently insignificant moments. Some 30 images of cyclists, everyday market scenes, and collection of recyclables and disposal of waste will be presented at this year’s Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, together with a few images from other collections held in the city archives.
