Terres, sols profonds du Grand Paris
Anne-Marie Filaire
Anne-Marie Filaire focuses in her photographic work on transformations of the landscape. For Terres, sols profonds du Grand Paris, she observed regularly over four years the expansion of the boundaries of Paris, a gigantic construction site that is changing our perception of urban space. More than 22 million tonnes of earth are removed every year, and ultimately an additional 45 million tonnes for the digging of 200 kilometres of future metro lines. All this soil excavated from under the surface is transported to sites on the edges of the “new” capital, where it is received, stored, reused or transformed. Filaire has documented these sites that receive the soil extracted from underneath Paris in order to build Greater Paris. Her photos bear witness to this hollowing out under the surface, the redistribution of matter, and the creation of a new geography.
