Déjà-vu
Alexander Jaquemet

The visual experiment presented by Alexander Jaquemet interrogates the connections of the medium of photography with memory. What remains of the impressions that we have accumulated over the course of our lives? How are memories formed, and how do they influence our perception and view of the environment? Jaquemet’s works create situations that invite the viewer into a visual dialogue between the known and the unknown, between image and reality, between the past and the present. The result is field of tensions in which vision becomes a conscious or unconscious confrontation with memory. To see is to know, and to know is to remember, and memory is not static. Memory is constructed, broken apart and reinterpreted with every new experience one has in the present, thus generating a new narrative.
