Martin Klimasuses neutral, monochrome backgrounds and an environment controlled to within a millimetre in order to capture these objects at the very moment they smash into a thousand pieces. The soundproduced by the vases and figurines upon hitting the ground triggers the camera, which then reveals the suspended moment, the transitional space that lies between object and non-object. Thistechnique inspires the perception of new objects, of “temporary sculptures” created by the photographer, which succeed one another and last only a fraction of a second. From among all the shotstaken of each object, he selects only one, that which most aptly expresses its mutation. Between elegance and violence, rest and motion, the photographs of Martin Klimas reveal thebeauty and poetry of a transformative moment and the silence preceding total destruction.
