Enjeux et perspectives
Enquêtes photographiques
Photographic documentation commissions have a long and rich history, in Switzerland and abroad. This new exhibition traces a history of photography commissions in the French-speaking region of Switzerland from 1989 to the present. It gathers images drawn from four photography commissions in French-speaking Switzerland that are still ongoing: those of the cantons of Fribourg, Geneva, Neuchâtel and Valais. Such commissions are a way of supporting photography, but are also an essential tool for the preservation of heritage by way of images. Their organization and mode of operation are very different from region to region. The goal of this exhibition is to highlight the richness and variety of the results of this support for regional photography, and to show the particular characteristics of each commission, which are determined by the needs and expectations in each place; it will also allow the public to appreciate the diversity of gazes among the creators.
This contribution to documentary photography will be discussed by photographers and image specialists in a round table moderated by journalist Florence Grivel on Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 5 pm.
