Emmanuel Tussore

The process of manufacturing Aleppo soap was developed in antiquity in the Levant, where Aleppo was in that era one of the main cities. Emmanuel Tussore makes sculptures out of this malleable and fragile material and then photographs them. Thanks to this production method, Aleppo soap becomes the symbol of a rough destructive force. The resulting ruins tell a story of absence, loss and exil, and call into question humanistic values. Drawing from history to depict present-day problems, Tussore offers a vision of the world in which the idea of disappearance dominates.
