Racines du Ciel ⵣ
Cedric Bregnard
The project Racines du Ciel ⵣ is a work that Cedric Bregnard has been on a journey with since his 2010 retrospective exhibition i-Grow in Japan. Thousand-year-old trees around the world are first seen through the eye of the photographer, and then their trace lives again in ink and the line of the brush, in participatory performances that Bregnard presents publicly using a selected image as starting point. Bregnard is beginning a new chapter in this project, taking as its topic the biodiversity of a forest. For three days over the opening weekend of the festival, the visitors are invited to reveal through the act of painting a monumental photographic image of a forest, a representation which was constructed during two workshops. Created in collaboration with the participants in the effe programme, who included their personal stories of migration, the image of the forest, printed in outline on cloth, will gradually be revealed by the actions of the public as the performance progresses. Sound realized in collaboration with the musician Jef Calmard.
This research, which follows those that have already taken place in some thirty locations, including the Église de la Madeleine in Paris, with 480 participants from 40 countries, is offered to us in this variation in the unique space of the hall of the Maison Farel.
