Human Interest Stories
Stephen Dock

At the age of just 22, without any experience neither sponsorship, Stephen Dock went to cover the conflicts in the Middle East and their consequences. Ten years later, he is undertaking a rereading and reinterpretation of his photographic record of Syria. Be establishing a temporal and factual distance from this archive, he radically reappropriates his own documentation through experimentation and alteration, unencumbered by the codes of photojournalism. He thus arrives at an investigation into the organic material of both the analogue and digital image. Between images of destruction and destruction of the image, this series involves a deep questioning of the role of the image and the photographic vocabulary of war. The project Human Interest Stories interrogates the function of photography in a broad sense and considers the status of the author.

In collaboration with curator Audrey Hoareau.
