Thierry Fontaine addresses the relationship between North and South (specifically, between Réunion and major cities) in the context of postcolonialism. As well, an essential element of his work is the question of identity and self-awareness. Thierry Fontaine covers up his face with various different materials that stifle the senses; with these materials he puts a shroud over the question of skin colour, and thus simultaneously brings discrimination into the light and covers it up. Thierry Fontaine tries with his photographs to deconstruct clichés.
