Mary Maggic’s video is a fictional TV show in which the two trans-femme hosts, Maria and Maria, teach the viewers how to make their own hormones in the kitchen. With a lot of irony, this video, reminiscent of Martha Rosler’s Semiotics of the Kitchen, examines the representation of sexuality in the media and the norms that define sexual identities in our society, and interrogates the pressures on individuals to submit to hormone treatment. Choosing the kitchen as a battleground, Mary Maggic speculates about a world with less discrimination and greater autonomy for everyone.
