Losing Ground
Matt Kay
Losing Ground is the story of lost land, memory and identity when the South African government built the Spring Grove Dam in 2013. Simultaneously the documentation of the construction of the dam marks the deletion of childhood-travelled roads, known spaces and keen memories for Kay.
His documentation of place, family and friends from this area is an attempt to understand how images can hold place for that what it does not represent, in such that photography is elusive to capture the past and the present. (John Fleetwood)
