Swiss photojournalists from the Impressum association are participating in Presstival 2026 in Biel/Bienne, which will be held this year over two days, 23 and 24 May, at the Gurzelen. A partnership has also been established with the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, which will welcome them into their programme with an exhibition running from 9 to 31 May 2026 in the stands of the Gurzelen stadium.

Entitled Prendre soin / Sorge tragen, the exhibition brings together photographers from Impressum around the theme “Vulnerability as a Commons.” The images address issues such as migration and hospitality, perspectives on exile, self-care and care for others, an ecology of care, caring for nature, feminism, invisibilised struggles, and attention to the most vulnerable.

Exhibiting such images of reality is never a neutral act: to see implies responsibility, to show even more so. Photojournalism confronts us with situations often kept at the margins of cultural visibility—fragile bodies, precarious living conditions, territories shaped by political and economic violence—and questions the sharedresponsibility of image-makers, viewers, and institutions.

From a care-centred perspective, the exhibition opens spaces of visibility where the image becomes a relation rather than an object of consumption. Looking is understood as an act of presence, responsibility, and positioning in the world. Vulnerability thus emerges not only as visual shock, but as a shared condition—an ethicalspace of memory, commitment, and care.

In a time marked by multiple crises and an overproduction of images, documentary photography here reasserts its essential role: making visible without simplifying, showing without exploiting, and reminding us that the very act of looking is already political.
