Sharp Memories

Using the landscape, nature and history as sources of inspiration, Constanza Piaggio’s photo series Sharp Memories experiments with the physical properties of the photograph. The images on display are landscapes, fragmented and sometimes blurred, made with a film camera. Parts of the photos are manually torn or damaged, so that a new surface appears where the subject has been effaced, creating a new landscape that suggests a disappearance. The manipulation of the formal elements of the image thus sets up a balancing act with the personal and intimate tone of its imagery and proposes a poetic investigation of the alteration of nature by human gesture.
