Candela
Simon Rimaz
In this work entitled “Candela”, the camera itself is used as a negative, or rather, as a mould: it is used as a container into which molten lead is poured. With their lenses removed, cameras are placed under an upright cardboard tube. When the hot lead has cooled and hardened, it reproduces the bumps and details on the interior of the camera that are normally invisible. Once removed, these casts (which resemble sceptres) reveal and reproduce the space in which photograph images are created.
