The tourism industry now offers organized tours in “conflict zones.” Gabriela Löffel’s video triptych “Offscreen” recounts the voyage of a young man who, having completed his studies, leaves for Iran and Afghanistan. Though the voyage was real, the scenes of the video were shot at the Babelsberg film studios in Potsdam.
The artificial backdrops, the voiceover, and the use of stuntmen make the film oscillate between fiction and reality, like a staging of authenticity to talk about war that becomes a question of consumerism.
