“Kamagasaki,” the title of this series of photographs by Eduardo Cebollero, is also the name of a district in the Japanese city of Osaka. Once seen as the embodiment of prosperity and Western glamour, Kamagasaki is today trapped in its past and in total decay.
Since the economic decline of Japan, the district has become centre to the largest concentration of homeless and unemployed people in the country. The employment office is like a theatre for scenes of people waiting in vain for work and pursuing their empty activities.
