Eva-Maria Raab is interested in new technologies and in individual and collective modes of representation. For her project “YOUNIC / faceBOOK,” she invited Facebook users from all over the world to send her their profile pictures. She then took one hundred of these portraits and reshaped them according to the generic male and female images that appear as the profile picture when users don’t add one themselves. The project addresses how a homogeneous symbol can be individualized to shake up everyday life.
