SANGATTE
Florian Bach
Through his installations, which confront the viewer with physical and visual resistance, Florian Bach questions the domination of human beings over their environment. In 2003, Bach went to Sangatte, the site of the Accomodationand Humanitarian Emergency Reception Centre (CHAUH), which had recently been destroyed by the French authorities. There he created a series of silent and repetitive images that reveal the traces left by the temporary occupation of the place. His series of images, taken in fog, speaks of loss, of the rejection of people and of uneasiness in the face of an issue that our society is constantly confronted with: exile. His work is presented in the form of an installation that surrounds the viewers.
