Leveza & Touching Myself
Rebekka Friedli

Rebekka Friedli creates performances in which she works with her own body. The festival is presenting two of her audiovisual works. The videowork, entitled Leveza, presented in projection, shows a sitting nude body looking down to the sea. Curled up like a rock integrated into the landscape, Friedli’s back slowly straightens and little by little reveals its living, feminine, human nature. Filmed at sunset in a foggy atmosphere and in pastel colours, the “body-sculpture” that results enters into an intimate dialogue with the surrounding landscape, accompanied by the movement of waves – a poetic dialogue between the inner and outer worlds, between the body and matter, between the animate and the inanimate. Friedli’s other video work, Touching Myself, presented on screen, deals with the relationship of the human being with her body and her image. Facing the camera and filmed in closeup, Friedli slowly touches her face with her own hands, which move like a foreign body. In a society of images, her work examines the relationship between the self and its representation.
