Beauties of science
SNSF Scientific Image Competition

Scientific endeavour patiently keeps adding to the growing body of knowledge. At the same time, science is a social practice performed by diverse individuals, each with their own unique perspective. What meaning can we ascribe to the beauty found in their work?

Every year, an international jury answers this question anew when it appraises the hundreds of works submitted to the SNSF Scientific Image Competition. The curated selection offers a visual cross-section of contemporary scientific practices, questioning our perception of science and beauty.

The competition categories
1. Object of study
2. Women and men of science
3. Locations and instruments
4. Videos
