Between Chair And Keyboard
Emma Bedos
The title of this audiovisual work by Emma Bedos, Between Chair And Keyboard, alludes to the mistakes brought about in a virtual system by the human error that occur “between the chair and the keyboard.” For this work, created in the midst of the pandemic, Bedos photographed and recorded conversations with her grandparents, both suffering from Alzheimer’s and living in a care home. Thanks to photogrammetry, a technique she used to reproduce her images in a 3D environment, Bedos immerses the viewers in a universe where the subjects being filmed are reproduced in the form of small dots.
In its fragmented form, the cloud of points highlights emptinesses, and brings to mind the weakening of their bodies and their fading memory. These digital representations illustrate the contrast between a virtual system free of defects and the fragility of the human condition. Her audiovisual work, oscillating humorously and poetically between reality and fiction, examines the place of life, of memory and of the attenuated connection of individuals with their environment.
