The architectural shots in Livia Di Giovanna’s video “Doppelt und dreifach umrundet” present us with a certain kind of industrial scene, but once they are laid flat, the images are transformed into sculptures with the third dimension left out. Alongside the video is a carousel made of wood, glass, and mirrors which reflects and deconstructs its surroundings. The installation thus employs movement, the position of the viewer, and “the gaze that becomes the motor in this machine for distilling images.[1]”
